British Sign Language (BSL) training

BSL is in use every day by our staff, clients, community groups and visitors. We are proud to be an organisation that understands D/deaf culture and deafness.

All of our training is delivered by our deaf members of staff whose primary language is BSL.

BSL Level 1

  • Birmingham

The starting point for anyone who wants a recognised BSL qualification. You’ll learn the basic skills and confidence to sign. Accredited by Signature.

Our new course date will start on Thursday 21st of November 2024.

Class time: 6pm – 9pm
Course duration: 22 weeks (with breaks for half term)
Cost: £455 (£50 deposit to secure your place, payment options available)

Location: Deaf Cultural Centre, Ladywood Road, Birmingham, B16 8SZ

BSL Level 2

  • Birmingham

Must have gained BSL level 1 qualification. During this course, you will learn BSL grammar and regional variations to expand your conversational skills. Accredited by Signature.

This course is now full but we are accepting students for our next course in Spring 2025. Let us know if you would like to be added to our waiting list.

Class time: 6pm – 9pm
Course duration: 34 weeks (with breaks for half term)
Cost: £695

Location: Deaf Cultural Centre, Ladywood Road, Birmingham, B16 8SZ

BSL Level 3

  • Birmingham

Must have gained BSL level 2 qualification. This course is recommended for people who work on a regular basis with D/deaf people. During this course, you will learn advanced signing skills, understand the use of BSL in a range of work and social situations and gain a deeper understanding of the D/deaf community and culture. Accredited by Signature.

Introduction to BSL

We can offer an Introduction to BSL training course for organisations to help you communicate and respond to the needs of D/deaf or hard of hearing colleagues and people who are accessing your products and services. This training can be tailored to suit your needs, and adapted if there are any specific signs you would like to learn.

What is covered in this course:

  • An introduction to BSL
  • Using simple language
  • BSL signs
  • The importance of body language and facial expressions

This is face to face training for 1.5 hours or 2 hours per week for 5 weeks. Training can be done at your premises or at a venue of your choice.

Prices start from £1,600.
